Napa Greenway Feasibility Study
The Napa Greenway Feasibility Study emerged in response to the Napa Valley’s commitment to providing transportation options, tourism opportunities, and a strong desire to enhance the quality of life for residents throughout the valley. The Greenway is an opportunity to draw on the superlative qualities of the region. This study was published by the Napa Valley Transportation & Planning Agency (NCTPA.net) February 10, 2009 and led directly to the NVVT Case Statement (below).
NVVT Coalition Case Statement
Read about cost estimates and other details by downloading the Case Statement here. This fundamental study and statement of the Vine Trails’ purpose and plans has been approved by all relevant (city, county, state, federal) governing bodies.
The latest copy of the Napa Valley Transportation Planning Agency’s County Bicycle Plan from 2003 can be found here; there is a brief mention of a Napa Valley wide trail in Appendix E.
Updated NCTPA Master Plan due our late 2011. The Vine Trail is the key countywide connector in this Master Plan.

Costs:
The NVVTC Engineering committee will be generating a cost estimate for phase one of the Vine Trail. A rough rule of thumb is that a multi-use trail costs $1 million a mile. The Vine Trail Cases Statement has preliminary costs broken down by segments and the total is $46.4 Million for the 44 miles of the trail of which approximately $2.4 Million has already been raised. We hope that over half of the remaining cost can come from state and federal sources.
Ongoing maintenance is estimated at $15 thousand per mile per year including trail patrols, upkeep, insurance and an amortization for trail resurfacing every 9 years.
