Dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in the Napa Valley by creating a 47-mile multi-use trail separate from cars.

The Napa Valley Vine Trail Coalition (NVVTC) is a grassroots, non-profit organization dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our community by creating a 47-mile multi-use trail separate from cars.

Our relationship with the community is built on a shared vision of creating a safer place for people to connect outdoors while protecting our natural resources. We connect with people through outdoor recreation, environmental stewardship, and economic growth.

The Napa Valley Vine Trail® serves as an important asset that increases bike and pedestrian safety, provides alternative transportation choices, shifts cars off the highway, offers free access to healthy lifestyle options, and provides fun outdoor recreational opportunities for all ages and abilities.

Purpose

Build a pedestrian/biking trail system to connect the entire Napa Valley—physically, artistically, and culturally.

Working to design, fund, construct, and
maintain 47 safe and scenic miles of
level, paved, family-friendly, pet-friendly,
free-access Class 1 trail, stretching from
the Vallejo Ferry to Calistoga.

The Coalition performs 4 major functions:

Stewards community philanthropy for building funds and maintenance funds.

Co-writes government grants for the County.

Optimizes landowner engagement and facilitates communication between agencies.

Accelerates pre-engineering and applies for federal and state construction grants to support local jurisdiction readiness to complete the 47-mile vision.

Why We Need the Vine Trail

For a Safer Community

Napa County has the 10th highest bicycle accident rate per capita for fatal and serious injury collisions. Trails separated from cars, like the Vine Trail, are by far the safest places to walk, run, or bike. 100% of the recommended countermeasures from Napa County’s Vision Zero and General Plans are incorporated into the Vine Trail design.

For a Greener Community

The Napa County General Plan identifies the Vine Trail as carbon-negative. Inspiring an active community, the Vine Trail connects communities from Vallejo’s Ferry Terminal to Calistoga Depot, providing a safer, car-free alternative for commuting, errands, and recreation.

For Alternative Transportation

Following Hwy 29, the main transportation route through Napa and Solano counties, the Vine Trail intersects with buses (NVTA Vine & STA Sol Trans) and the San Francisco Bay Ferry, connecting our community to the greater Bay Area.

For a Healthier Community

Napa County has some of the highest rates of obesity and diabetes in the Bay Area. A free and accessible biking and pedestrian trail system creates opportunities for recreation, improving community health. NVVTC’s largest annual fundraiser is a month-long fitness and fundraising challenge, held each May.

For a More Vibrant Economy

The Vine Trail will bring an expected $165+ Million annual boost to Napa Valley’s economy. According to Visit California, visitors who incorporate outdoor recreation into their stay extend their trip by an additional day. Local businesses leverage the Vine Trail, attracting both visitors and locals alike.
